

He was born and raised in Winter Garden, Florida on October 17, 1942. He was an all-star athlete in high school and excelled in basketball and baseball. He proudly served his country from 1961 to 1967 and was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant from the Air Force. Don was a Deputy Sheriff in Orange County, Florida from 1967 to 1969. After that he worked for Bell South Telephone Company for 33 years in Indian Harbor Beach. He retired in 2002.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Carlos and Hazel Howell, and his sister; Josephine. He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Barbara and children, Chris and Tammy; brother, William and step-children, Carina, Stefanie (Gary) and Sammy (Shari); grandchildren, Maxwell, Hanna, Jake and Abby.
Don was a loving and caring husband and doting grandpa (OPA) to his grandchildren. He adored them and loved to spoil them.
He was a member of the Melbourne Elks Lodge #1744 where he enjoyed many good meals and had fun with friends. He loved fishing in the surf and in the river. He went to many gun shows and collected guns from WWII. History was a passion for him. He was an avid Miami Dolphins fan and enjoyed watching the Florida Gators football and basketball games.
There will be a visitation held from 10-11am on Thursday, February 25, 2016 at the Life Event Center at Florida Memorial, 5950 South US highway 1, Rockledge, FL followed by a celebration of Donald’s life at 11am. Entombment will be at Florida Memorial Gardens.
