Donald was known by many as a man with a giving heart and a dedication to God. He was kind, selfless and sincere, who loved his family more than anything. As a young child, he moved with his parents and siblings to Dumfries, Virginia. A few years later, they moved to Triangle, Virginia, where his siblings and he played on what they called “Government Grass”, which was across the street from the statue of the Iwo Jima Memorial. They would often see General Dwight D. Eisenhower’s caravan going into the Quantico Marine Base to play golf. He attended Dumfries Elementary School, and graduated from Gar-Field High School in 1961 where he played football. Donald was offered a full scholarship to the University of Florida, but declined to take care of his family. Soon after graduation, he started working with the VA State Highway Department in Manassas, Virginia and later with Prince William County as a Building Inspector. In 1973, he was employed by the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Architectural and Engineering Department until retiring in 1995. He was a member of Town Council for the City of Dumfries, Virginia and became a member of the Masonic Lodge of Quantico, Virginia in 1974. As a young man, he played men’s softball and coached little league baseball where his two sons were greatly involved as players. He also coached football and basketball at the local Boys Club. Church was a passion of his, as he was a dedicated member for over 20 years of the Calvary Baptist Church in Melbourne, Florida. Some of his favorite hymns were, “Amazing Grace”, “Mansion Over the Hill Top”, “He Touched Me”, and “I Met the Master”.
He is survived by his loving wife, Gloria Liming, and predeceased by sisters, Joyce Liming and Irma Pearson, and brothers Bill and Ray Liming. Survivors include his sisters, Barbara Mangum, Diane Bass and Betty Carpenter, and brothers Eugene, Roger and Jimmy Liming; his two sons, Brian and Bruce Liming, and daughter, Shannon Jones; grandchildren, Holly Duong, Laura Shabazz, Daniel Westfall, and Jennifer Liming; and step-children, Tim and Mark Sweeney and their children, along with many nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren.
He is loved by many, and will be forever in our hearts. To anyone that had the privilege of meeting him or being part of his life, the family asks that you share your moments so that we can continue to keep his memory alive.
