She was born on August 15, 1938 in Plattsburg, New York. She graduated from Champlain Valley School of Nursing in May 1958 then married her sweetheart, Edward McCaffrey on August 30, 1958. They began their life together traveling as a military family to Hawaii, Texas, Maryland, Taiwan and then back to Maryland where Ed retired from the Air Force. Florence worked as a nurse during this time in various positions in the emergency room, on medical surgical floors, and as occupational health and safety nurse. They retired to Florida full time in 2005.
Florence was a vibrant personality who loved her family and friends. She had a deep and enduring faith and was an active member of Ascension Catholic Church. She had many interests including sewing, knitting, reading, crossword puzzling and of course, baking. She was well known for her wonderful pies (and great sense of humor).
Florence and Ed also loved traveling, especially cruising and their adventures took them all over the world including Australia, Europe and the Far East.
Florence is survived by her husband Edward, her children Mary (Robert), Michael (Karen), Amy (Matt), Johanna (Tom) and Edward (Tiffany). She is also survived by her grandchildren Nicole (Vince), Sarah (Alex), Alyssa (Peter), Ian, Laila, Jenna, Grace, and Jacob. She has two great grandchildren, Landon and Max (and another on the way).
A memorial service will be held at Ascension Catholic Church, 2950 N Harbor City Blvd, Melbourne, FL on April 9, 2016 at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Social Concerns (Food Pantry) with Ascension Catholic Church, Melbourne, Florida or to your local food pantry.
