George was born in Fort Myers, Florida on February 4, 1979. A quiet and humble man known by so many for his very dry sense of humor, calm demeanor in the face of adversity, endless repository of facial expressions, love of fishing, and compassion for animals, like his great Uncle George, George was the personification of one who would literally give you the shirt off his back.
After high school, George joined the United States Navy. He proudly served from 1997 to 2001 aboard the USS CARL VINSON (CVN-70) as a Fuels Aviation Boatswain’s Mate. After George’s stint in the U.S. Navy, he followed in the footsteps of many of his immediate family members by joining the ranks of Acousti Engineering Company near his home in Satellite Beach, Florida. George loved being outside working in the elements and working with his hands. Although the work was physically challenging, George found it gave him purpose and a solid way to make ends meet on the home front.
In his limited off time, if not spending quality time with his wife Jewel or their pets Lou Lou, Uni, Tuni, and Mitzi, George would grab his fishing pole and drive to the Atlantic shoreline to surf fish or go to his dad’s fishing pier a few miles down the road in Melbourne. George was quite the angler. No matter the time or the day, wherever George cast a line, he would somehow always land a few sheepsheads, croakers, trout, striped bass, or even the occasional red fish. He was that good! In addition to fishing, George also enjoyed playing golf, snow skiing, and going on the occasional bird hunt with his family.
Looking to build upon his family’s extensive knowledge of the acoustical engineering trade, George, his oldest brother Evan, and Evan’s son Little Evan, and Woodson Burden started their own company called Deca Construction LLC in Rock Hill, South Carolina. George proudly served as the Vice President of Operations.
George’s passing came only four months after his 45th Birthday. The loss of George has left an unfillable hole in our hearts and souls. George is survived by his beloved wife, Jewel, his parents, Hoyt E. Verner, Jr. and Cecilia C. Verner, sister Anna H. Verner-Shaw, and brothers Evan Verner and Christopher Borkenheim.
A funeral service for George will be held on Thursday, July 11, 2024, from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM at Life Event Center at the Florida Memorial, 5950 South US Highway 1, Rockledge, Florida 32955. Following the funeral service, there will be a graveside service with military honors from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM at the Cape Canaveral National Cemetery, 5525 US-1, Mims, Florida 32754.
