

After graduating from Brooklyn College in 1940 with a degree in mathematics, Gil went to work at the Pentagon. After the start of WWII, he joined the army, and was sent to the South Pacific, where he was commissioned as a lieutenant. He took part in the invasion of several Japanese occupied islands as the army island hopped towards Japan.
After the war, he returned to New York where, on New Year’s Eve 1945, he met Julia Sultan on a blind date. They were married 9 months later, the start of a 69 year romance. Gil obtained an MBA from NYU, and became a CPA. He was the comptroller of Golden Foods in Manhattan for many years and then went to work for the Federal Government. He was the NJ grants manager for several federal programs, including Head Start.
Gil was a very loving husband, father, grandfather, and uncle. He was known for his sense of humor, equanimity, and devotion to family.
His wife, Julia predeceased Gil by one year. Gil is survived by sons, Gordon (Vicki) and Theodore (Colleen), as well as grandchildren Rachel, Stefanie, Jonathan, and Natalie Amgott.
Funeral Services will be held at the Life Event Center at Florida Memorial, 5950 South US Highway 1, Rockledge, FL on Sunday, January 8, 2016 at noon.
