

Jim was born on September 4th, 1932 in Martinsburg, West Virginia, he was predeceased by his parents, Bruce & Irene Butts and his brother, Bruce(2017).
He joined the Air Force in July 1950 at the age of 17. While in the Air Force, he attended Yale and studied the Korean Language and Culture. He also met his bride, Charlotte Elterich, and they were married in 1956.
He served in Korea as an Intelligence Operative with ASIS and became on OSI agent in 1960.
In 1964, while in Berlin, Germany, he transferred to the Army. He was in 101st Airborne and served in Vietnam in 1967-1968. He retired as Chief Warrant Officer in 1971.
Upon retiring from the military, Jim began his career in the FBI. He retired in 1987. He would continue his service by volunteering as a Guardian ad Litem(GAL) in Brevard County for several years and as a Private Investigator. He remained active until his diagnosis with bone marrow cancer due to Agent Orange.
Jim is survived by his beloved of 61 years, Charlotte; his son, James; daughter Florence Holden(Jeff); daughter Suzanne Bryant(Gregg); granddaughter, Kristin Reilly(Danny); two great-grandchildren, Mackenzie and Dane; brother-in-law Kenneth Elterich(Marie) and several nieces and nephews.
Jim was a member of Satellite Beach United Methodist Church, retired FBI Agents and retired Officer’s.
A Graveside Service will be held on October 20th, 2017 at 1100 am at Florida Memorial Gardens, 5950 South US Highway 1, Rockledge, FL.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: MOAACC Scholarship Fund- Families of Veterans; Satellite Beach United Methodist Church; and William Childs Hospice House.
