

EGGLESTON, LCDR, USN, JOHN R., Ret., 79, of Cocoa Beach entered into rest on Monday, February 13, 2012. John was born on March 15, 1932 and grew up in Lakeville, CT and then enlisted in the Navy in 1951. After seven years as an Aviation Structural Mechanic and Combat Air Crewman, he was commissioned an Ensign in 1958 and became what is now referred to as a Surface Warfare Officer. His duty tours included a command tour in Qui Nhon, Vietnam where he was awarded the Bronze Star. After a tour at the Naval Training Devices Center in Orlando, he retired in 1971 and resided in Winter Park for many years before moving to Cape Canaveral and Cocoa Beach. After the Navy, John became the Assistant Manager of the Navy Orlando Federal Credit Union and went on to be President of Kennedy Space Center Credit Union, Space Coast Credit Union and Community Educators Credit Union in Brevard County. John also served on various Boards of Directors; he also was President of the Central Florida Chapter of the Florida Credit Union League and President of the Florida Credit Union Executives Society. An Avid Scouter for many years, John was presented the prestigious Silver Beaver Award by the Central Florida Council, Boy Scouts of America in 1979. He was also a Vigil Honor Member of the Order of the Arrow, and was awarded the Cross of St. George by the Diocese of Orlando's Catholic Committee on Scouting. He was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Bea Plummer Eggleston of West Palm Beach, and is survived by his three children and their families: Jack of Annapolis, MD, Bob of Cocoa Beach and Terry of Winter Park.
