

He will be lovingly remembered by Audrey, his wife of 63 years. John is survived by his children, Pierre (Brenda) Mellick, Cindy (Al) Folensbee, John (Stacy) Mellick, Sharon (RD) Dotson, and daughter-in-law Donna Mellick. He was predeceased in death by his son Andre Mellick. John was a beloved grandfather to Christi (Harold) Cruz, Charlie Mellick, Michelle (Dan) Benoit, Joshua (Michelle) Mancini, Kristyn Folensbee, Daniel (Lauren) Folensbee, Jacob Mellick, Kaitlyn Mellick, and Hannah Dotson, as well as five great-grandchildren.
John was born in Enid, Oklahoma and moved to Oklahoma City during his high school years, where he attended Classen High School. He was awarded Eagle Scout in high school. John graduated from Oklahoma State University with a degree in Electrical Engineering and later received an MBA from Florida State University. John went to work for Boeing in Seattle right out of college then moved to Florida where he met Audrey. He continued to work for Boeing for almost 40 years.
He was a member of First Baptist Church of Merritt Island for 45 years where he served as a deacon, served on many committees, volunteered at the House of Hope and spent countless hours testing lights for the Living Christmas Tree. John was part of the Merritt Island computer club, meeting at the Merritt Island Library in the early 80's, long before most people had computers, studied the stock market, delved deeply into genealogy, loved puzzles, cards and games, and building things. He was willing to jump on any roller coaster, practice any sport with his grandkids, or start any home project. He even finished some of them!
A memorial service will be held at the Life Event Center at Florida Memorial Gardens at 4 pm Tuesday, September 3, 2024 with visitation beginning at 3:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
