

Born on February 11, 1940, in Brooklyn, New York, he proudly served his country in the United States Navy aboard the USS John Paul Jones. He went on to earn his Bachelor of Science degree and later served with distinction as a member of the New York City Police Department in Brooklyn. Following his retirement from the NYPD, Joseph moved to Florida to be closer to family.
An avid golfer, Joseph found joy and relaxation on the golf course, often sharing the game with friends and family. He was known fondly as “The Great One,” a title that reflected both his personality and the deep love and respect he inspired in those around him.
Joseph is survived by his children, Joseph Jr. (Christine) Byrne of Rockledge, FL, and Thomas Byrne of Rockledge, FL; his twin sisters, Bea of New Jersey and Ann of Connecticut; his cherished grandchildren, Kevin (Jen) Byrne, Nicole (Steve) Paiz, Eddie (Stephanie) Byrne, Kristie Byrne, Joey (Alysa) Byrne, and Brianna Byrne; and his beloved great-grandchildren, Rhiley, Jordan, Alayna, Raelyn, Eddie, Sandy, and Connor.
He was predeceased by his wife and the love of his life, Anne Byrne; his son Michael Byrne; his brothers Thomas, Eugene, and James, sister Patricia and his parents, Thomas and Eugenia Byrne.
Visitation will be held at Life Event Center at Florida Memorial on Tuesday, July 29, 2025 from 5–7 p.m. A Funeral Mass will follow on Wednesday, July 30, 2025 at 11 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, with interment at Florida Memorial Gardens at 1 p.m.
Joseph will be deeply missed, and his memory will forever live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
