Joyce A. Meier, 81, of Jensen Beach, Florida died in her home on Sunday, November 24th of Parkinson's Disease. She is survived by her loving husband Karl, her daughters Brenda Snow and Sheryl Fornier, her grandchildren Jennifer Ellis, Josh Schoenfeld and Jacqueline Jackson, and her great grandchildren Avery Ellis, Chloe and Emmery Jackson. She was preceded in death by her father Thomas R. Nicholson and mother Pauline C. Wolfe.
Joy(ce) was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on the 25th of March, 1943 as Joyce Anna Nicholson. After graduating from Melbourne High School in 1961, Joyce became a beautician and for most of her life worked exclusively in Florida. She owned a shop in the Orlando area about the time Disney World opened, and later in West Melbourne as well. Years later, Joyce worked at the Kennedy Space Center as a barber having cut and trimmed the hair of many of our country’s astronauts. Joy was an avid motorcyclist until she married Karl in 1996 which ended her motorcycle days. She and Karl traveled the world on many ocean cruises in their 28 years together. They also owned several boats, traveled throughout Florida’s waterways and occasionally to the Bahamas. Joyce and Karl moved to their retirement home at the Moon River Villas of Jensen Beach in the year 2000 after living and working in Melbourne for over 60 years. In her retirement years, Joyce became a “Master Gardener” and plied her skills daily to Moon River’s landscaping needs. She also acquired a 1000 hours pin for her volunteer work at Martin Memorial Hospital (now Cleveland Clinic) in nearby Stuart, Florida. Joy(ce) was never one to remain idle, and was always doing something good with her time. Her many friends in Moon River greatly mourn her passing.
A “family only” internment service will be held at Florida Memorial Gardens in Rockledge, Florida on Saturday, December 14th. A memorial service at Moon River’s Clubhouse will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers,a memorial donation may be made to either of her favourite charities: Habitat for Humanity and/or The Humane Society.
