Julia Sultan Amgott, 95, of Viera, Florida, died at home on September 3, 2015. She was predeceased by two beloved sisters, Dorothy Eisner and Lucille Holiner. Julia is survived by her devoted and caring husband of 69 years, Gilbert. She is also survived by her loving children Gordon Lee (Vicki) of Massachusetts, and Theodore Robert (Colleen) of Melbourne. Julia adored her four grandchildren, Rachel, Stefanie, Jonathan, and Natalie Amgott.
Julia, known by many friends and family as Juju, was born in Brooklyn and graduated from Brooklyn College with a degree in economics. She later studied early childhood education, and taught first grade at PS 42 in Staten Island for 14 years. Julia was a voracious reader, ardent bridge player, and crossword puzzle aficionado. She was an avid follower of national and world affairs and, following in her father’s footsteps, she read every copy of the NY Times from cover to cover. In her late 80’s, she excelled in the NY Times on-line news quiz.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, September 6 at 11 AM at the Life Event Center, Florida Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, any donations in memory of Julia may be sent to Temple Israel in Viera.
