Leona May Smith

Leona May Katona Smith passed away peacefully on Feb 21, 2022 in Cape Canaveral , Florida at the age of 83. Leona will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 65 years, Robert W. Smith, her daughters Dawn C. Meyer of Cape Canaveral, FL and Michelle L. Smith of Wimberley, TX, her grandchildren Michele Morris of Killeen, TX and Melissa Rioux of Spring, TX, and her sisters Pauline Street of Princeville, Kaui, HI and Diana Cook of Cecil, OH as well as by numerous nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to express gratitude to the Hospice staff of Cape Canaveral Hospital for the care they gave to Leona in her final days.

Leona was born in Payne Township in Ohio in 1938. She and her husband moved to Indiana in 1974 and later to Florida in 1985. She was an amazing and talented woman who created many items that she and her husband sold at local craft fairs. She was also a bank teller for a number of banks including the Hicksville Building and Loan, the First FA, and Washington Mutual, and later a medical transcriptionist for the Visiting Nurses. She loved to spend time with her family and in nature. She was also a life member of the VFW Auxiliary 6441 of Wimberley, TX.

Friends and family will be received graveside at the Florida Memorial Gardens, 5950 South US 1 Highway in Rockledge, FL 32955 at 2:30 pm on Thursday February 24th.
