

Lucy was born in Bedford, Virginia, July 1, 1920, and completed her R.N. training course through LewisGale Hospital, Roanoke. Upon her move to Alabama in 1955, she served as a nurse in two Montgomery, Alabama hospitals. Following her hospital assignments as charge nurse and training supervisor, she was asked to organize the Medical Services Dept. (now CNA) program through Central Alabama Rehabilitation Center, Montgomery. Subsequently she authored “The Nurse Assistant” published by Delmar Publishers in 1978. The textbook is still used in vocational nursing programs worldwide.
Mrs. Brooks was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, B. Blair Brooks, in 2013; and three brothers, Roy, Woodrow, and Burford, and one sister, Ruby Agnes. Lucy is survived by her daughter, Sharon Brooks Maslin, Rockledge; son-in-law Mark S. Maslin, one grandson, Chris Maslin of Black Mountain, NC.; two great-grandchildren and one nephew, Andrew Key, of Bedford.
The funeral service will take place at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, November 13, in the chapel of First Baptist Church, 140 Magnolia Avenue, Merritt Island. Viewing and receiving of friends will take place one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Bedford, Virginia, in Suck Spring Baptist Church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Wuesthoff Brevard Hospice (661 Eyster, Rockledge, FL 32955) or First Baptist Church of Merritt Island (140 Magnolia St., Merritt Island, FL 32952).
The family would like to thank the staff of the Coconut Cottage of Palm Cottages Assisted Living Facility, and the staff of the Dr. Jey Pillai Center for Hospice Care, both in Rockledge.
Florida Memorial Gardens is entrusted with local arrangements. Tharp Funeral Home will be serving the family in Bedford.
