

He was born on April 29, 1934 in Jeffersonville, IN.
A devoted husband for 69 years, Luther shared a lifetime of love with his wife, Barbara. She provided him with endless support during his military career and cared for him after he sustained his injuries in Vietnam.
A retired Army veteran and paratrooper, Luther’s unwavering dedication led him to serve in Germany, Fort Campbell, Kentucky, Fort Benning, Georgia, and Fort Bragg, North Carolina. His valor shone brightly during the Korean War and three tours in Vietnam. Achieving the distinguished rank of Master 1st Sergeant, Luther’s military journey was marked by courage and sacrifice.
After 20 years of honorable service, Luther’s path took a turn during his third tour in Vietnam when he bravely faced adversity, becoming paralyzed in a helicopter crash. His remarkable resilience earned him three Purple Hearts and one Bronze Star, embodying the true spirit of a patriot.
Luther is survived by his daughter, Terie Bernhart, adopted son Matthew Bernhart, great-grandson David Bernhart, brother-in-law Marion Williams (Erma), sister-in-law Molly Burton, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Alford and Myrtle Bernhart, daughter Jeanie Bernhart, son Luther Kenneth Bernhart Jr. better known to his loving family as Kenny, and siblings J.R., Marvin, and Mary Bernhart.
Luther leaves behind a legacy of honor, courage, and family bonds that will forever be cherished by those who knew and loved him. May he rest in peace.
A celebration of life for Luther will be held Monday, January 15, 2024 at 12:00 PM at Florida Memorial Gardens, 5950 S US Highway 1, Rockledge, FL 32955.
