

Lt. Col. Murray L. Oppenheim, born May 28th, 1924 in Rumford, Maine passed away Tuesday, September 30th, 2014 at the age of 90. Colonel Oppenheim was a long time resident of Satellite Beach. He was preceded in death by his parents Benjamin and Frances Friedman Oppenheim; and his brother Edward Oppenheim.
Colonel Oppenheim is survived by his wife of 63 years, Zelma; three children, Jeffrey Oppenheim, Debbie Oppenheim Vaseliou and Cindy Oppenheim; grandchildren Jason Oppenheim, David Vaseliou and Thomas Vaseliou; brothers Joseph and Robert Oppenheim and many nephews and nieces. He was a loving, wise and generous husband, father and grandfather.
Colonel Oppenheim was in the U.S. Air Force for 20 years. He was an Electrical Engineer working in communications and the space program. He had been stationed in Alaska, France, Vietnam and several stateside bases retiring in 1967 From Patrick Air Force Base. Colonel Oppenheim then had a successful career as a financial advisor for Merrill Lynch retiring in 1991 to spend time with his wife, family and to travel. Colonel Oppenheim enjoyed tennis, bridge, table tennis, and above all his family.
Colonel Oppenheim received a BA from the University of Maine, a Bachelors in Electrical Engineering from the University of Florida, and a Masters in Education from Florida State University.
A funeral service with Air Force Honors will be held 11 A.M. Sunday, October 5th at The Life Event Center at Florida Memorial with interment to follow at Florida Memorial Gardens. Donations in his honor can be made to the William Childs Hospice House (1900 Dairy Road, Melbourne, FL, 32904) or the Multiple Sclerosis Mid Florida Chapter (2701 Maitland Center Parkway, Suite #100, Maitland, FL, 32751) in memory of Murray Oppenheim.
