

Robert Dubowsky Satellite Beach Lt. Col. Robert (Bob) Dubowsky USAF (ret.) of Satellite Beach, passed away peacefully at home on February 5, 2011. Bob was born in Mineola, NY on February 19th, 1921 to William and Celia (nee Solomon) Dubowsky. After graduating from high school at 18, he em barked on an ambitious coast to coast road trip in a 1931 Oakland. His adven ture was later chronicled in a memoir called Mineola to Mineola. He attended Hofstra College, enlisted in the US Army Air Corp and while waiting to be called up he worked for Grumman. He became a B24 bomber pilot during World War II and flew 35 missions out of East Anglia, England. His first mission was on July 20th, 1944 and completed his last mission March 24th, 1945. He was shot down on mission 33 on January 16th, 1945 en route to a bombing raid on Dresden, Germany; all crew members survived. He received the DFC, Air Medal, 4 OLC commenda tion medals, and the Purple Heart. He held a BS in Mili tary Science from the Uni versity of Maryland. After retiring from the military in 1964 he continued a career in the Civil Service at the Eastern Test Range as a down range manager for multiple missile projects over a period of 20 years. He leaves behind Irma, his devoted and beloved wife of 58 years, as well daughter Jacqueline and her family Farlen Halikman and their daughters Emilia and Lyla Halikman; and daughter Susan Dubow sky-Nehab and husband Micky and grandchildren, Ben, Dana, Karen and Ron. Irma and Bob traveled the world extensively and visited Israel over 50 times. He was a member of the Retired Air Force Associa tion, the Order of Daeda lians, 2nd Air Division Association and 44th Bomb Group Association. He was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and a docent at the Air Force Space and Mis sile Museum at Canaveral Air Station for 25 years. Graveside service was held Monday, February 7, 2011 at Florida Memorial Gardens in Rockledge at 2 pm at the Hebron Mount section.
