Robert Wren, eldest son, big brother and friend; passed away August 18, 2011 in Melbourne, Florida. He was born September 8, 1952 in Atlanta, GA.
As a kid, he moved around, Melbourne Beach, FL 1955, Dexter, MI 1959, Ann Arbor, MI 1960, Indialantic, FL 1963 and South Melbourne Beach 1967. He graduated from Melbourne High in 1970/71, joined the U.S. Army in 1972. He served for 3 years while being stationed in Baumholder, Germany and Homestead (Everglades), FL as a Nike Hercules missile operator. After being honorably discharged from the Army, Robert graduated from Brevard Community College and then went on to the University of Florida.
He worked for RCA on Andros Island in the Bahamas for several years and then at Cape Canaveral AFB for RCA and Computer Science Raytheon. In his later years, Robert enjoyed fantasy sports and collecting sports cards with a passion. He spent many hours watching old shows and movies.
He enjoyed telling tales of his exploits starting with his high school years, when he sped up and down A1A developing a reputation (which he was proud of) with the police in Melbourne Beach. Then he told Army stories of boot camp, Germany and the Everglades. He enjoyed the social life and traveled near and far to be part of it, this led to many more great tales and four wives. But most of all, in his later years, Robert enjoyed talking about his dad, mom and brothers. We fished, surfed, hung out and traveled together for years. Robert believed that he and his two brothers could do anything, win anything and conquer anything as a team of three. He believed his mom was the best cook in the world and his dad was the smartest. He loved his mom, dad and brothers and did his best to help them even when he was ill.
No matter where Robert was, he searched for fun or a fight for the purpose helping someone he befriended. He was always out to help someone, usually the underdog. Robert's bark was much worse than his bite and I never knew him to have hurt anyone during his many, many conflict resolutions.
Robert leaves behind his brother, Paul W. Wren; sister-in-law, Lynn Malcolm Wren; nephews, Daniel and Mathew; niece, Amelia; and his girl friend, Camille Hughes, who made his last years on earth much, much better for Robert.
Robert was predeceased by his brother, Jonathan A. Wren (1959-1979); his mother, Mary Quay McCall Wren (1926-2005; and his father, Artemus W. Wren, Jr. (1926-2007). He will be sorely missed.
Ashes will be interned at Florida Memorial Gardens, 5950 S. US Highway 1, Rockledge, FL, on Saturday, October 22, 2011 at 2 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Chapel by the Sea, 8240 S. A1A, Melbourne Beach, FL 32951.
His brother, Paul, would appreciate hearing from anyone who knew Robert over the years and/or has a Robert story to tell. Paul can be contacted at [email protected] or 1119 Glencoe Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15220.
