Born Ruth Mae Earls to Marion Earls and Nellie Jane Little on February, 26, 1931 in Fleming County, Kentucky, at the age of 7 Ruth lost her mother but wasn’t without the loving support of nine brothers and sisters who remained tightly knit in the years that followed.
As a young girl Ruth worked with her father farming the tobacco fields of northern Kentucky and helped him to handle cash flow using an old cigar box on their huckster wagon.
She came to Brevard in 1962 and worked as an assistant manager for a retail store called Eagle Army-Navy, similar to today’s Dollar General store.
Upon the marriage to her adoring husband, Ramon “Ray” Bovee in August of 1998 Ruth fully adopted the role of motherhood to three children.
Ruth was preceded in death by her daughter, Julie (Bovee) Wise and was also the last surviving sibling of her nine brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her husband, Ray Bovee; daughter, Kerry Lasner (Harvey); son, Scott Bovee; grandsons, David Oliver and Tyler Bovee.
Ruth was such a blessing to her family and to all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She was well-known for her ability to befriend a complete stranger. Ruth was well loved by the staff of Opis Indian River Center where she spent her final days.
A visitation will be held on Monday, March 2nd from 10 to 11am at the Life Event Center at Florida Memorial, 5950 South US Highway 1 in Rockledge, with a funeral to begin at 11am.
The family asks that donations in Ruth’s name be made to Alzheimer’s Disease Research, 22512 Gateway Center Dr., PO Box 1950, Clarksburg, MD. 20871-1950.
