He was born on October 27, 1947, in Chicago, Illinois. Samuel proudly served his country in the United States Navy as part of the Naval Advisory Group during the Vietnam War from April 15, 1969, to June 22, 1970. His time in service remained a defining chapter of his life and reflected his strong sense of patriotism.
Following his military service, Samuel built a career at WF Hall Printing, where he worked as a Senior Quality Mark Up Analyst. His work ethic and attention to detail marked his years there, and he took pride in the contributions he made.
Outside of work, Samuel enjoyed boating, classic westerns, cars, and the regular glass of rum. Known for his independent spirit and straightforward nature, he lived life on his own terms.
He is survived by his son, Samuel Stanhope Smith IV; granddaughter, Shardonnay Hobbs (Benjamin); and great-grandchildren Preslynn, Jenson, Ryder, and Penelope Hobbs. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clotilde and Samuel Stanhope Smith Jr., and his sister, Carolyn Walls.
In his honor, donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Foundation, reflecting his lifelong respect for fellow veterans.
