Born in 1958 in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Oscar Smith and Lois Brinkman (nee Schubel), Scott is survived by an entourage of family and friends who collectively mourn his departure. This includes his wife, In Su, who laughed at Scott’s jokes (sometimes) right to the end, his three children Chris, Jessica (Forrest), and Katie, grandson Atlas, and grand-dog Rosie. Scott is also survived by two older brothers, Jeff and Kirin, and a host of loving family and friends.
We who knew Scott in the days of his youth may have worried about his life path, but he quickly proved us wrong. Joining the Air Force in his twenties he went on to have a distinguished career as a lab program manager working with worldwide nuclear activity monitoring. He loved his work immensely and made the daily drive to Patrick Air Force Base with a smile on his face.
It was difficult to catch Scott without his ever-present mischievous grin, especially if he was surrounded by family or friends or if he was in pursuit of one of his many interests. He could geek out with the greatest of Star Wars and Star Trek nerds. His bookshelves overflowed with science fiction titles. He loved a good cigar and an amber ale or a single malt scotch (or two, or three), and even better if he could enjoy it during a Barcelona match or a Cincinnati Bengals or Ohio State game. He loved driving his convertible, although we haven’t found many folks who seem to have enjoyed being a passenger in it.
A memorial service will be held on December 29th at 1 p.m. at the Life Event Center at Florida Memorial Gardens located at 5950 S US Highway 1 in Rockledge, Florida. A reception celebrating Scott’s life will take place immediately after.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Blood Cancer United at bloodcancerunited.org.
