Shirley was born on August 1st, 1928 to Howard and Norma Durand Ackerman in Chicago, IL.
Shirley is survived by her husband of 61 years, Lt. Col. (Ret.) Thomas M. Barry. Other survivors include son Thomas H. Barry and wife Jeanne of Sharpsburg, GA; daughter Patricia Anne Barnes Nosek of Melbourne, FL; sister Patricia and husband Ken Kirchmeyer of Maui, HI; sister-in-law Earlene Ackerman of Rockport, MA.
Shirley also leaves 5 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Shirley was preceded by her brother, Howard Ackerman.
A memorial will be held for family and friends on Saturday, February 12th, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the Indian River Country Club in Viera, FL.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be considered in her memory to the American Cancer Society.
