Cmdr. William J. Blevins, age 89 of Satellite Beach, Fl. Died on June 7, 2011 at Holmes Regional Hospital. He was a native of Doeville, Tennessee. He was the son of the late Ira William Blevins and Nelia Pleasant Blevins. He was preceded in death by his loving and faithful wife, Will Nell “Billie” Blevins in 1995; four brothers, Dr. Sells Blevins, Dr. Justin Cline Blevins, Dr. Carson Blevins and Dr. Raymond Dean Blevins all of Johnson City, Tennessee.
Cmdr. Blevins was a graduate of Johnson County High School, Mountain City, Tenn. and Georgia Tech University with a degree in Engineering. He entered the US Navy and was a veteran of WWII, as well as the Korean and Vietnam wars. He worked for NASA while stationed at Patrick Air Force Base and served with honor and distinction at the Pentagon with the Joint Chiefs of Staff. He took a position in the US State Department with the Agency for International Development (USAID) and lived and worked in countries such as Kenya, Uganda and Brazil from 1967-1971.
He is survived by a daughter, Angela Yvonne Bretton of Melbourne, a son Dr. Michael William Blevins of Satellite Beach, and a granddaughter, Melanie Weaver of Hamdan, Connecticut. He is also survived by two sisters, Mary B. Murray of Vero Beach, Fl, and Wanda Vee B. Dugger and Husband Delmas of Johnson City, Tennessee. Relatives include several nieces and nephews and a very special caretaker, Victoria “Princess Vicki” Kupec.
William was a member of Oceanside Community Church in Satellite Beach and read his bible daily. He will forever be remembered as a kind and loving soul and will be truly missed by his family, friends and all who knew him. There will be a visitation from 9-10am on Saturday, June 11, 2011 at Florida Memorial Funeral Home followed by a funeral service in the chapel at 10am. Entombment will follow at Florida Memorial Gardens.
