William A. Blount, Jr.

William, known as Bill to his family and friends, was born in Detroit, Michigan on June 13, 1932. He grew up in Redford and graduated from Redford High School in 1950. While in high school he joined the Naval Reserves to which he served proudly for 10 years.

Bill enjoyed his lifelong career with Bell Telephone Co. (now AT&T). He worked as a lineman, switchman, and facilities supervisor, before finishing his career in a test center.

In 1952, Bill married Arlita Chipps, the love of his life who he always referred to as his “angel”. Together they raised three children, Richard, David, and Julie. He was a doting husband and loving father, and he took great pride in creating a home that was happy and full of love.

In 1963, Bill accepted a job transfer from Michigan to the Florida Space Coast and relocated his family to Melbourne. The new Blount home and backyard pool quickly became the hangout for neighborhood kids and families. To Bill everyone was a welcomed friend. He also loved and owned RVs, and over the years took his family and friends on many adventurous vacations.

Hardworking and humble, Bill was always ready to go the extra mile for anyone at any time. For Bill no challenge was too big, and he was never above getting his hands dirty. He was always there to help, day or night.

Bill set the example of goodness, strength, and gentleness while bestowing wisdom along the way. You were enriched to have him in your life, and a better person for knowing him. Loved ones will miss his big hugs and mischievous smirk. He was totally adored by all who knew him.

He leaves behind his wife Arlita, son Rick (Espee), son Dave (Penny), daughter Julie (Scott), grandchildren Christopher (Tiffany), Eric (Brandi), Jennifer, Ryan, Riley (Konrad), Taylor, Markie, Breezy, Danielle, Bonita (Eric), 18 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

His family invites anyone who knew him to a celebration of life at Bill and Arlita’s house on Saturday, July 30th at 1pm.

He will be laid to rest at Florida Memorial Gardens in the Garden of Time.
