

Dorothy Bass Styons, formerly of Plymouth, North Carolina, went to be with the angels on Friday, October 10, 2014, just after her 86th birthday. Dorothy was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was born on September 29, 1928, and was raised in Rocky Mount, NC, but later moved to Plymouth, NC, where she spent most of her adulthood. Dorothy resided the last few years of her life in Spring Hope, NC, to be near one of her daughters. Dorothy was a lifelong member of Plymouth Church of Christ. She was also very well known in Plymouth for her years of service at Cindy’s Foodmart where everyone knew and loved Mrs. Dorothy. Dorothy was preceded in death by both of her parents, Kelly Robert Bass and Ruth J. Bass, as well as her brother Robert Kelly Bass and sister Mary Aline Bass. Dorothy will be laid to rest next to her late husband, Randal O’Neil Styons, Sr., in Plymouth, NC. Dorothy was also preceded in death by her youngest child, her son, Randal O’Neil Styons, Jr. Dorothy leaves behind a large number of family and friends to remember her including her daughter and son-in-law, Ann Styons Groves and husband, Jim, of Clayton, NC; her daughter and son-in-law, Ginny Styons Stokes and husband, Wilbur, of Spring Hope, NC; and her daughter-in-law, Judy Styons of Bear Grass, NC. The many grandchildren she leaves behind are Lee Modlin and wife, Robin, of PA; Keith Stokes and wife, Wendy, of Spring Hope, NC; Stacy Modlin and wife, Ginger Clark, of Cary, NC; Kelly Stokes and wife, Sharon, of Spring Hope, NC; Kyle Stokes and wife, Amy, of NC; Krissy Stokes Figlewski and husband, Stash, of Kure Beach, NC; Eric Styons and fiancée, Jenn Sisk, of Greenville, NC; and Beth Ann Modlin Sarpong and husband, Eric, of Ghana, West Africa. Great grandchildren include Taylor Styons Lilley of Bear Grass, NC; Geoffry Modlin of Clayton, NC; Christopher and Jamie Modlin of PA; Ashley Stokes of Spring Hope, NC; Jackson Figlewski of Kure Beach, NC; and Ara and Erin Sarpong of Ghana, West Africa. Dorothy also leaves behind her beloved companion and pet, her dog, Hannah. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Wednesday, October 15, 2014, at 2:00 PM at the Plymouth Church of Christ, Plymouth NC. The interment will follow in the Hill Side Memorial Gardens. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 14, 2014, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the Johnson Funerals and Cremations, 661 English Road, Rocky Mount.
