Born May 3, 1944, in Hindsville, Arkansas, Berta was the seventh of nine children. A generous and spitfire of a woman, Berta loved her family with all her heart. She was an outdoor enthusiast who found joy in gardening, canning, and spending time in the mountains and woods. She was known for her love of dancing and singing—often heard from the next room—especially gospel music and family favorites. She proudly fulfilled her wish to dance on a table at 80 years old.
In her late 60s, Berta became Vice President of an industrial maintenance company and continued working until the age of 78. A born-again Christian, she loved the Lord deeply. “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me,” reflected her faithful life. May God welcome her home.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Dennis Ferguson and Ethel Phoebe (Camp) Ferguson; a son, Jason Hillebrenner of Olathe, Kansas; three brothers, Sam, Pete, and Karl Ferguson; and one sister, Marie Daniels.
She is survived by her children: Joe (Malinda) Hillebrenner of Shawnee, Kansas; James Mitchell of Kansas City, Missouri; Jeanette (Ben) Sexton of Abilene, Kansas; and Paula (Mark) Baumgartner of Kansas City, Missouri. She also leaves behind three sisters and one brother: Grace Fulk of Rogers, Arkansas; Mary McGaugh of Spavinaw, Oklahoma; Rose Simpson of Noel, Missouri; and Chuck (Teddi) Ferguson of Rogers, Arkansas. She was also blessed with 11 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 7th at 10:00 a.m. at Rollins Funeral Home in Rogers, Arkansas, with a graveside service to follow at Colbaugh Cemetery in Hindsville, Arkansas.
