

Lifelong Roman, Ann Wicker Green went home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 24, 2025. Mrs. Green was a 1956 graduate of Rome High School then attended the University of Georgia and completed a degree in elementary education. She was part of the first ever group of Georgettes in the UGA Redcoat Marching Band, a member of Phi Kappa Phi honor society and a Zeta Tau Alpha. After graduating, she married Hugh H. Green who preceded her in death in 2019 after a 58 year marriage. Mrs. Green taught for several years at 8th Ward and Glenwood Schools while starting a family. She left teaching to raise her family full time and enjoyed her role as supporter of her daughters’ education and extracurricular activities, especially all things baton, band, and dance. After learning to clog at the local recreation center, Mrs. Green founded and was the dedicated director of the Southern Style Sweethearts clogging team from 1997 until 2024. Her clogging team participated in a variety of shows including fall festivals, holiday celebrations, and elderly care entertainment. The team won numerous awards over the years in competition including repeat performances at the Smokey Mountain Encore in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. In addition to her passion for dance, Mrs. Green was an avid UGA Bulldog fan and Atlanta Braves supporter.
Mrs. Green was preceded in death by her parents, Carlton and Sara Lou Wicker, her husband, Hugh H. Green, and son-in-law Ron Hall. Mrs. Green is survived by her daughters, Lou Ann Culpepper (Scotty), Gloria Hodges, Rosemary Hall, and Betsy Sanford (Johnnie) as well as eight grandchildren, Bobby Hodges, Abbie Bannister (Jessie), Carlton Duvall, Candace Johnson, Drew Hodges, Emily Hall, Sarah Hall, and Madison Sanford and seven great-grandchildren, Rayne, Benton, Emma, Eliza Lou, Wicker, Ward, and Shepherd. Also, Mrs. Green's beloved brother, Robert H. Wicker, nephews Jon Wicker and David Wicker, and niece Robin Croft.
A visitation will be held at Daniel’s Funeral Home on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at 1 pm with a memorial service to follow at 2:00 pm in the chapel. Afterwards, a brief graveside dedication service will be held at Oaknoll Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Bobby Hodges, Carlton Duvall, Drew Hodges, and Jessie Bannister. Honorary pallbearers are Scotty Culpepper, Johnnie Sanford, Jon Wicker, and David Wicker.
