Annese was born in Dublin, Georgia and raised in Cadwell, Georgia by her parents, Edward Austin Colter and Louise Mullis Colter. Annese graduated from Laurens County High School, and went on to attend classes at Georgia College. She married the love of her life, Walter Thomas, Jr., in 1967. After having two children and living in Tennesse, North Carolina and Maryland, Annese and her family settled in Marietta, Georgia in 1977. Shortly thereafter, the family joined Roswell Street Baptist Church, where Annese served with joy in numerous capacities and made many lifelong friends. For several years, Annese provided childcare in her home. She loved on and cared for many lucky babies with whom she remained in touch over the years.
Annese was an amazing wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend. Above all, she was a faithful servant of Christ, who never let an opportunity pass to share His love with all He placed in her path. She was known for her giving spirit. She loved nothing more than sending cards and gifts to everyone she knew – from close friends, family members, and neighbors, to doctor’s office staff, employees at grocery stores where she shopped and banks where she conducted business, to the postal workers, delivery drivers and sanitation workers providing service to her home. No one was ever left out or forgotten by her.
Annese enjoyed taking road trips with both family and friends. In addition to summer vacations at the beach with her husband and children, she went on many travel adventures with her mother and sisters, as well as with her girlfriends. But most of all, Annese loved being at home with a house full of people. When her children were teenagers, she welcomed all of their friends with open arms, and it was not uncommon to have a packed house for sleepovers. She was also the first to volunteer to host members of visiting churches in town for various mission or exchange programs, who needed a place to stay the night. In later years, Annese was most happy when her five grandchildren were filling her home with noise and activity.
Annese is survived by: her husband of 53 years, Walter Thomas Jr.; her two children, Jay Colter Thomas (Meredith) and Susan DeAnn Thomas Bomar (Spencer); her five grandchildren, Colter Judson Thomas, Samuel McClain Thomas, Thomas Spencer Yeichan Bomar, Rees Catherine Thomas, and Wesley Scott Thomas; her two sisters, Susan Colter Beacham and Pam Colter Kight; as well as many nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law, cousins, aunts and an uncle, all of whom she loved with her whole heart.
