
Ms. Rice was born in Rome on November 23, 1932, the daughter of the late Robert M. Rice and Bessie Walker Rice. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Teresa Hammond and Nan Brownlow.
Ms. Rice retired from Celanese and then the Floyd County Deed Room. With her sister, she owned and operated JB’s Cloth Shop for several years. She was a member of the Second Avenue Baptist Church and was active in the Fellowship Sunday Class. She was also a member of the Lavender Mountain Quilt Club and loved to travel.
Survivors include one sister, Geraldine “Jerrie” Rice, Rome; five nieces and nephews, Nan Loveless, Micie Wilson, Babs Holcomb, Ed Brownlow and Bobby Brownlow; 10 great-nieces and nephews, 15 great-great nieces and nephews and two great-great-great nieces.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 18, 2011, at 2 p.m. at the Second Avenue Baptist Church, Rome, with the Rev. Monty Stallins officiating. Interment will be in the Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Bobby Brownlow, Jim Loveless, Jim Holcomb, Randall Heard, Dana Collum and Jamey Lambert. Honorary pallbearers were Ed Brownlow, Josh Bailey and Justin Newman.
The family received friends at Daniel’s Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 17, 2011, from 5 until 8 p.m.
