
Mrs. Boston was born in Floyd County October 15, 1929. She was the daughter of the late Sam W. Parker, Sr. and Bernice Lindsey Parker. She was also preceded in death by her first husband Daniel Houston Burke who died January 23, 1968 to whom she was married for 13 years, her second husband Howard Clinton Boston who died April 15, 1989 to whom she was married for 16 years, and two brothers; Sam W. Parker, Jr. and Harold K. Parker.
Mrs. Boston was educated in Rome City Schools. She furthered her education and graduated from Shorter College and started a career of teaching in the Floyd and Polk County School system. She was a member of local, state and national educational associations. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Rome, where she taught Sunday school for over 25 years and served on various committees within the church. She loved reading, crocheting, she was an avid quilter, and loved to needlepoint. She was loved by her family and will be greatly missed.
Survivors include two sons; Barry L. Burke, Sr. of Edgemoore, SC, Daniel H. “Chip” Burke, Jr., of Pensacola, FL., one daughter; Elizabeth Burke DeBarr of Burlington Township, NJ, two brothers; Pat Parker and his wife Sybil of Rome, Mike Parker of Panama City, FL., sister-in-law; Frances Parker of Rome, three grandchildren; Christy Burke of Charlotte, NC, Barry Burke, Jr, of Edgemoore, SC, Daniel DeBarr of Boulder, CO, one great grandchild; Houston Reign Burke of Edgemoore, SC and three honorary great grandchildren; Annabelle, Violette, and Josie Magness.
The family received friends Saturday February 14, 2015 at Daniel’s Funeral Home from 12:30 pm until 2 pm. A service for Mrs. Boston was held in the Thomas B. Griffin Chapel of Daniel’s Funeral Home following the visitation at 2 pm with Grant Magness, MTS officiating. Interment followed at East View Cemetery.
Those serving as pallbearers were; Dan Scott, Hal Davenport, Tommy Holt, Allen Storey, Tom Harris, Sammy Parker, Robin Ables and Tommy Parker. Those serving as honorary pallbearers are; Sam Evans, Brady Drummond, Jim Ford, Charles Rainwater, Harold Keeler and George Jeffries.
Flowers were accepted or memorial contributions may be made to; Trinity United Methodist Church 606 Turner McCall Blvd., Rome, GA. 30165 or to Danny Thomas St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Daniel’s Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.
