

Bruce was an avid outdoorsman and aviation enthusiast, as well as a supporter of the Rome community, including East Rome High School’s Football team, whom he played for, and continued supporting as Rome High School. He was involved heavily in multiple Floyd County organizations, including, but not limited to, Leadership Rome and American Legion Post 5. Bruce also served the U.S. Army as a Military Police Officer in Germany, which was a high honor of his lifetime.
Bruce was the son of the late Elizabeth “Betty” Rush and the late J.L. “Shorty” Rush.
He is preceded in death by his late wife Kathleen Byington Rood, and his sister Betty Jane Quandt,
He is survived by his brother Steve (Diane) Rood and sister Angel (Larry) Camp as well as sons Jason (Wendi) Rood and Matthew Rood, stepson William (Heather) Byington, and stepdaughter Kelly (Patrick) Malone, grandsons Jackson Rood, Will Byington Jr., Thomas Byington, Banks Malone, and Bishop Lee Malone, granddaughter Stella Rood, and husband-in-laws Bill Byington and Richard Green.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 2nd from 10 o'clock in the morning until the service hour at Daniel's Funeral Home. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, December 2nd in the chapel of Daniel's Funeral Home at 11 o'clock in the morning with Chaplin David Thornton and Deacon Stu Neslin officiating.
A private inurnment will take place at a later time.
