

illness. He was born on March 3, 1932, the son of Orlena Vance Mitchell Moore and
Hugh Griffin Moore. He was the great, great grandson of one of Rome’s Founding
Fathers, Colonel Daniel Randolph Mitchell. He was a lifelong resident of Rome and a
member of First United Methodist Church since childhood.
He was a gentle, kind man with a servant heart. He was adored as husband, father,
brother, grandfather, and great grandfather. He proudly served in the United State
Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict and also served in the Marine Corps
Reserves. He was known for his excellent work ethic in the paper industry and
retired from Temple-Inland, Inc., after 43 years of dedicated service.
His brother, Hugh Griffin Moore, Jr. predeceased him. Survivors include his beloved
wife of 65 years, Nancy Chapman Moore; three daughters, Cynthia Horner
(Stephen), Birmingham, AL, Elizabeth Ragusin (John), and Dana Fritsch (Eric);
five grandchildren, Lauren Horner Byrd (Joseph), Sarah Moore-Ragusin MacKimm
(Douglas), Jackson Moore-Ragusin, Amanda Fritsch, and Daniel Fritsch; three great
grandchildren, Rebecca, Jacob, and Will Byrd. Additional survivors include his
brother, Luke Mitchell Moore (Kitty), Portland, Oregon, sisters Vicki Hand (Larry),
and Susan Wilson, nieces and nephews.
The family will observe a private Celebration of Life and inurnment which will be held at a
later date.
