
The Roberson Family suffered the loss of their beloved patriarch, Elbert John Roberson, 80, of Rome, GA, when he went to be with his King and Savior on Good Friday, April 18, 2014, from a local hospital.
Elbert was born on August 5, 1933 and spent his rich, long life in Rome, the town he loved; in Floyd County, GA. Elbert was the proud founder of Elbert J. Roberson Auto Collision, some 54 years ago. As a testament to his acumen, the business remains in the hands of his son, Elbert Roberson Jr. today. Mr. Roberson was a great community leader, selflessly offering his time and service to countless local causes, particularly those benefiting children. Examples include East Rome High School and the Darlington School. He was also a member of the Mason’s Oostanaula Lodge 113.
Elbert was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Jessie Roberson, and his brother, Cecil. Elbert Roberson was a loving husband, a tenderhearted father, and a caring grandfather. He was also a loyal and generous friend. Elbert’s survivors include: his beloved wife Emily Williams Roberson of Rome, GA; daughter and son–in-law Lisa (Ned) Webster or Rome, GA; daughter and son–in-law Haley (Jonathan) Lewis of AZ; son and daughter in-law Elbert (Diane) Roberson Jr. of Rome, GA; daughter and son-in-law Elizabeth (Danny) Peace of Rome, GA; son and daughter-in-law John (Vickie) Roberson of Rome, GA; ten grandchildren: Mary McAlister, Michael Webster, Jonathan Roberson, Ryan Webster, Hope Roberson, Emily Webster, Lauren Roberson, Gabriel Lewis, Elbert John Roberson III, and Adam Roberson; nieces Vickie LeCroy, Tonya Hall, and Bridget Roberson, and nephew, Terry Wayne Roberson.
Daniel’s Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements for Mr. Elbert John Roberson. The Roberson Family welcomed friends to come and remember Elbert on Monday, April 21, 2014 at Daniel’s Funeral Home from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm. Funeral services followed at 3:30 pm in Second Avenue Baptist Church with Glenn Getchell officiating. Jerry Sharpe and Tommy Atha also spoke at the service. Elbert wasl then laid to rest in the East View Cemetery.
The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Ned Webster, Tommy Atha, Gene Smith, Greg Phillips, Edwin Williams, and Glenn Getchell. Jerry Sharp and Brady Drummond served as Honorary Pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorial contributions be made to the Darlington School’s Athletic Department, 1014 Cave Spring Rd, Rome, GA 30161.
