
Mr. Scoggins was born in Rome on February 28, 1947, the son of Mary Doris Bennett Scoggins and the late Howard Gordon Scoggins, Sr. In addition to his father, Mr. Scoggins was preceded in death by his wife, Marcia Smith Scoggins, on September 29, 2011. They were married on July 8, 1967.
Mr. Scoggins retired from the General Electric Plant as a draftsman. He was a member of the Pleasant Valley South Baptist Church and loved to fish, camp and spend time on the lake. He loved his wife, children and was the “best granddaddy.”
Survivors include one son, Gordon (Jennifer) Scoggins, Cedar Bluff, AL; one daughter, Camille Scoggins (Nick) Brown, Rome; six grandchildren, Mitchell, Maddie, Mabrey, Marley and McCartney Scoggins, and Jack Rush; his mother, Mary Doris Scoggins, Rome; one brother, Charles (Sharon) Scoggins, Rome; one sister, Janice (James) Cox, Lindale; and two sisters-in-law, Sandra (David) Bratcher, Silver Creek, and Dr. Jennifer (John) Stewart-Ellet, Richmond, VA.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 27, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the Griffin Memorial Chapel of Daniel’s Funeral Home with Dr. Philip May officiating. Interment will be in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Chuck Scoggins, Ken Cox, Stewart Bratcher, Mitchell Scoggins, Wayne Davis and Britt Chandler. Honorary pallbearers will be Jeremy Powell, Ken Brinson, Paul Granger, Stanley Carver, Joel Denney, David Henderson and Herman Brock.
The family received friends at Daniel’s Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 26, 2013, from 6 until 8 p.m.
