
Jackie was born in Carrollton, GA, on October 31, 1925. She moved to Rome in 1933 and attended East Rome elementary, Neely and Girls High before going to the University of Georgia in 1943. She then married W. J. McBrayer, Jr., and much of her adult years were spent living in Winder, GA, raising two children, teaching school and returning to UGA where she received three degrees. While teaching school in Winder she was twice honored as Teacher of the Year in 1978 and again in 1984. In 1984, she placed second in the state by Governor Joe Frank Harris for her guidance and support to her students and fellow teachers. She was also acknowledged by the Northeast Cooperative Agency of GA and the Support Teachers Program of Performance for dedications to education.
After W. J. died, Jackie continued teaching in Winder until retirement. She later moved to Rome and married her high school sweetheart Billy Primm.
She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Winder and later joined First Presbyterian Church of Rome. She was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority, Kappa Delta Pi, Phi Delta Kappa and Delta Kappa Gamma International. Most important to Jackie was being a dedicated and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to all. She was active in her community and loved playing bridge with her friends.
Survivors include her husband, Billy Primm, Rome; her son, W. J. “Chuck” McBrayer. III, Winder,; her daughter, Diane McBrayer Holland (Dennis), Marietta; three grandchildren, Jeni Somervold, Timothy and Katherine Holland; great grandchild, Luke Somervold; and brother, Damon Tuggle, Chattanooga, TN. She was preceded in death by both parents, Marion Bryan “Jack” Tuggle and Carrie Lee Bonner Tuggle, Rome, and brothers, Howell Tuggle, Maurice Tuggle and Lee Tuggle.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2014, at 2 p.m. at East View Cemetery with the Rev. Bill Pardue officiating.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 28, 2014, from noon until 1:30 p.m. at Daniel’s Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests memorial contributions be made to Transitions Hospice, 610 Shorter Ave., Suite 9, Rome, GA 30165 or to your favorite charity.
