
James “Jim” William Fraser, 89, died peacefully in his sleep early Sunday morning, February 7 at Redmond Hospital in Rome, Georgia. Jim was born in Huntsville, AL, son of James William Fraser, Sr. and Susan Hobbs Fraser. He was their second son, with an older brother, Richard Hobbs Fraser, and a younger brother, David Muir Fraser. Jim grew up in Huntsville, Alabama and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He graduated form the Citadel in Charleston, SC in 1942 and married Louisa Penelope Palmer. There they had a daughter, Anne Palmer Fraser in 1943 before moving to Miami, Florida in 1946 where their second daughter, Susan Fraser, was born. Jim worked as an accountant and had a furniture refinishing business with his brother David. He enjoyed playing bridge and camping and hunting in the Everglades of South Florida. He was also active in the Kiwanis Club and was an usher and vestry member of Trinity Episcopal Church. After Penelope died in 1968, Jim met and married Rose Marie Brand in 1971. They enjoyed boating in the Florida Keyes. In 1982 they moved to Cave Spring, Georgia where Jim fulfilled a life long dream of beautifully renovating a house. After the renovation was completed, Jim took up the hobby of furniture making as well as hunting and playing bridge. Jim and Rose were members of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Rome, GA. After Rose died in 2003, Jim moved into Rome. He lived at Horizon Bay at the time of his death where he initiated a group that met to play bridge a couple of times a week. Jim is survived by two daughters, Anne Fraser Willis of Courtland, Virginia and Susan Fraser Taquechel of Atlanta, Georgia. Also surviving him are a grandson, Eric Fraser Taquechel of Fairfax, Virginia, a granddaughter, Emily Palmer Taquechel, of Atlanta, Georgia; a great granddaughter, Francesca Grace Taquechel of Fairfax, VA; and a brother David Muir Fraser of Roswell, Georgia along with nieces and nephews.A funeral mass will be held to celebrate the life of Jim at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Rome, GA at 12:00 Noon on Friday, February 12, 2010 with family visitation preceding the mass in the vestibule of the church at 11:00 AM .In lieu of flowers, consider making a donation to the Citadel Foundation, 171 Moultrie St., Charleston, SC 29409 or the Catholic Relief Services, 228 W.
