

He was born on August 3, 1934, to the late Moses Wright Dunwoody and Hattie (Patsy) Owing Dunwoody.
He is survived by his son Richard Lee Dunwoody (Susan, step grandson Grant) and his daughter Alison Diane Dunwoody also of Rome. Also survived by his sister Carolyn Dunwoody Clement of Charlotte, NC. He is preceded in death by his wife Madeline Stillwell Dunwoody and his son Moses Wright Dunwoody II.
Jerry was a 1953 graduate of Darlington School. He went on after graduation to attend Georgia Institute of Technology. Jerry joined Valley Vend Food Services in 1955 where he worked until retirement. Over his tenure he would serve on the Board of the Georgia Automatic Merchandising Council (GAMC) for over eight years. Jerry was awarded the GAMC “Vender of the Year” in 1988. He then went on to serve on the Board of the National Automatic Merchandise Association (NAMA) for six years. During his time on the board of the GAMC & NAMA, Jerry had the opportunity to make friends throughout the vending industry nationally. He remained good friends with all of them after his retirement. Jerry was elected to the Rome City Commission starting in January 1975 and won reelection. He served on the Commission as Chairmen Pro Tem his second term. After 10 years of service to the City of Rome, Jerry finished his second term on the Rome City Commission in December 1984.
During his adult life Jerry was a member of the Rome Jaycees for many years. Later Jerry joined the Rome Rotary Club. Jerry was a member of Saint Peters Episcopal Church for 60 years. Jerry was very dedicated to St. Peters and was good friends with all the congregation members. He served in leadership positions on the church vestry multiple times over the years. One of Jerry’s favorite hobbies was grilling out on his Weber grill. Jerry and his wife Madeline hosted numerous dinner parties over all those years with Jerry on the grill and Madeline bringing the meals together inside. The occasion did not matter. Holiday, birthday, celebration, there was always a good time had by all at one of Jerry’s cookouts. In his retirement years, Jerry and his wife Madeline enjoyed traveling. They had the opportunity to travel numerous times to Ireland to tour with friends throughout Ireland.
The memorial service celebrating Jerry’s life is Saturday, February 14 at 11 am at Saint Peters Episcopal Church. The family will receive friends at the reception following the memorial service in Daniel Hall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts to Saint Peters Episcopal Church Hearing Impaired Equipment Fund, 101 East Fourth Ave, Rome, GA 30161.
