
Mrs. Chambers was born in Brevard, North Carolina (Transylvania County) on October 26, 1933, the daughter of the late William Sylvester White and Lilymae Whitmire White. She graduated from the Martha Berry School for Girls in 1951, after having initially come to Berry in 1947. Her family moved to Pennsylvania where they lived for four years and she attended college there for two years, returning to Berry in the fall of 1954 as Assistant Supervisor in the Handicrafts Department. Shortly thereafter, she renewed her acquaintance with A. Milton Chambers, a Professor in the Business Department and they were married May 22, 1955. They lived on the Berry College Campus until 1997.
Mrs. Chambers received her Undergraduate degree in Early Childhood Education from West Georgia College in 1973 and her Master of Education Degree from Berry in 1975. Mrs. Chambers retired from Berry College in February 2000, where she served as Director of Berry College Child Development Center for 20 years.
Survivors include her husband A. Milton Chambers; two daughters, Susan Ann Chambers and Allyson Gayle Chambers of Rome; one son and daughter-in-law William Milton and Julie Reny Chambers of Mt. Berry; four grandchildren, Brittany Nicole, Lindsey Marie, Emma McLean and Grant Alexander Chambers of Mt. Berry; and very special friend, Mary Sexton.
Services for Mrs. Chambers were held Friday December 7, 2012 at 3:00 P.M. in the Berry College Chapel with Rev. Les Connell and Rev. Gary McWhorter officiating. Interment will follow at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. The family received friends at the Berry College Alumni Center on Friday from 12:30 to 2:30.
In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests memorial contributions to be made to the Milton and Jo Ann Chambers Endowed Scholarship fund or Berry College Child Development Center at Berry College, P. O. Box 495018, Mt. Berry, GA. 30149-5018 or to your favorite charity.
Pallbearers were Brian Chambers, Joel Hayes, Chet Winkles, Walker Connally, Marvin Howlett and Jimmy Floyd. Honorary pallbearers are Larry Taylor, Charles Hoge, Boyd Stimpson, Joe Walton, Bob Williams, Tom Chambers, William Hayes and Howard Massey.
Daniel’s Funeral Home had charge of the arrangements for Mrs. Jo Ann White Chambers.
