

She was born in Kingston, Georgia on December 26, 1921, daughter of the late Glover Frank Dodd and the late Mary Hitchcock Dodd.
She was married to Melvin D. Hill on January 25, 1942, who preceded her in death on September 2, 1969. She was also preceded in death by a sister Jean Dodd Brock of Hickory, North Carolina.
JoDel is survived by a daughter, Lynda Milam and her husband Phillip of Rome and a son Tom and his wife Linda of Atlanta. She was also “Grandmama Jody” to three grandchildren, Scott Milam and wife Kristy of Ormond Beach, Florida, Jodie Milam Moore and husband Joe of Virginia Beach, Virginia and Melanie Hill Gilbert and husband Steven of Atlanta. She is also survived by a favorite niece Mica Brock Nixon of Clinton, South Carolina.
She has five great grandchildren that called her “Aunt JoDel.” They are Riley Milam, Kailey Milam, Tai Moore, Henry Moore and Claire Gilbert.
JoDel graduated from Rome High School and received her college education from GSCW, Milledgeville, Ga. graduating in 1942. She spent her teaching career in the Rome City System retiring after thirty years. She truly loved her students and so many have commented that she was their “favorite teacher.” She was a member of the Floyd Rome Retired Educators Assn., and former member of the DAR and Iota Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma.
She spent many happy years traveling and enjoying her friends, children and grandchildren.
JoDel was a long time member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She enjoyed her Sunday School Class and participation with The Rah Rahs. She was a wonderful Christian lady and lived her life by The Golden Rule. She had a very happy spirit and will be missed by all that knew and loved her.
A Memorial service was held at Trinity United Methodist Church on Saturday, November 15th at 3:00 pm with the Rev. David Campbell officiating.
