

Dr. Lambros Constantine Rigas was born in Smithfield, NC, on February 18, 1932, the only child of Kostantinos S. Rigas and Lamprine (Polychronis) Rigas of Sparta, Greece. Due to the early loss of his parents, he was fostered by his father’s business partner, Peter G. and Barbara Leventis. Dr. Rigas went to elementary school in North Carolina. He graduated in the first class at St. Basil's Academy in 1945 in Garrison, NY. He graduated from Haldane High School in 1949 in Cold Spring, NY. He pursued his undergraduate education at Charlotte College and the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, graduating with an AB in Political Science in 1954.
Dr. Rigas was a Korean War Veteran serving with the occupational forces in the 35th First Airborne of the 10th Division in Germany.
Lambros returned to UNC to obtain his Doctor of Medicine degree in 1962. He attended the Medical College of Georgia to complete his internship and residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology under the tutelage of many of the renowned physicians of the time.
He married his wonderful wife, Anne Seymour, September 26, 1964 at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Augusta, GA.
Upon completing his residency, he moved to Rome, GA, in 1967 to practice private obstetrics and gynecology until 1995. On retirement from private practice, he taught at Floyd Family Practice until 2005.
Dr. Rigas was a member of the Georgia OB/Gyn Society, a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, a member of the Floyd, Polk, and Chattooga Medical Society, the American Medical Association, and the Southern Medical Association. He was on the Rome Salvation Army board, and he was a member of the Rome Breakfast Optimist Club and the Headstart Program in Augusta, GA. Dr. Rigas directed the Polk County Obstetrical Clinic in Cedartown until 2005.
Early in his retirement, Dr. Rigas enjoyed playing golf, traveling to North Carolina to visit friends and family, and spending time outdoors. He deeply loved his family and took great pride in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Tasia. He is survived by his wife, Anne Rigas; and son, Sonny Rigas (Misty); six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren, to whom he was lovingly known as ‘Papu.’
Dr. Rigas attended Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church in Marietta, GA.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2026 at 11:00 am at the the Mausoleum at Myrtle Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, February 20, 2026 at Daniel's Funeral Home from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm.
