

She is survived by her daughters Elizabeth Kane Irvin (Jeff) of Charlotte, NC and Mary Kane Chambers (Mike) of Atlanta, Ga. and her beloved grandchildren Kane Chambers, Nate Chambers, Olivia Irvin, and Jack Irvin. She was preceded in death by her son Frank Joseph Kane.
Linda was born on December 24, 1939 in Fort Payne, Alabama to the late Charles and Mildred Prestwood. She was educated in the Dekalb Co. School System and later attended the University of Alabama where she was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority. She once danced with the legendary Paul "Bear" Bryant at a football banquet.
In 1961, she married Captain Robert Kane. They lived in Phoenix, Las Vegas, and Lakenheath, England while he served his country in the US Air Force. They eventually settled in Rome, Georgia where they raised their family and where Linda graduated from Berry College.
Linda was a longtime children's librarian at Sara Hightower library and later a longtime volunteer at Habitat for Humanity in Rome. Linda enjoyed working in her own garden as well as around her community. She was a certified Master Gardener and active member of the Camellia Garden Club. She was an avid golfer, playing several times a week with her husband and close friends. She also enjoyed needlepoint, entertaining and spending time with her many friends and family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made to The Camellia Garden Club, 100 E.8th Street, Rome, Ga 30161 or to Habitat for Humanity of Rome.
Visitation was held at Daniel’s Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 from 5 until 7 p.m., and funeral services were held at St. Peter's Episcopal Church on Wednesday, November 22 at 11 a.m. The Reverend John Herring, the Reverend Doctor G. Donald Black and the Rev. Nikki Mathis officiated.
