

Mrs. Madelyn Elizabeth Cordle Collette, age 88, of Rome, GA, passed away Saturday November 28, 2015 at home surrounded by her family. Mrs. Collette was born in Trion, GA June 17, 1927. She was the daughter of the late John Broadus and Zephyr Perry Cordle. She was also preceded in death by her beloved son Jeffery Collette, her former husband Jesse Collette, three brothers, Malcom Cordle, Billy Cordle and Perry Cordle; three sisters, Evelyn Carroll, Amy Thomas and Nancy Anne Cordle.
Madelyn grew up in Trion, GA and was a student in the Trion City Schools. She began piano lessons at the age of 9 and played at the First Baptist Church of Trion and other churches as the family moved from place to place. Music was always a huge part of her life. After graduation Madelyn began working at Riegal Textile in the payroll department. She was later employed by the State of Georgia at Northwest Georgia Regional Hospital as an administrative assistant in the food service department and as a Customer Service Manager at Walmart. She loved doing volunteer work in the church office at Trinity UMC for years and held the office of Treasurer at the church for years for the United Methodist Women’s organization.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law John and Lisa Collette, two daughters and sons-in-law Melanie and Sam Babb and Suzanne and Tim Cook. Also surviving is one grandson and spouse Clif and Lara Babb, granddaughter and spouse Sarah and William Grizzard, granddaughter Johna Collette and her fiance’ Nick Riggs, and granddaughter Maria Winn; Eleven great grandchildren, Curtis, Carter, Bishop, Sarah, Ashley Issac and Adelyn Babb, Patrick and Wesley Grizzard, Sam Masters and Lillian and Ashlynn Winn-Jackson, Several beloved nieces and nephews also survive.
Services were held Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at 2 pm at Trinity United Methodist Church with Rev. Kenny Ott, Rev. Wayne Hopper, Rev. Andy Woodworth and Dr. Roy Cordle officiating. Interment followed the service in procession to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery on Farmersville Rd in Summerville, GA. The family received friends Tuesday evening, December 1, 2015 at Daniel’s Funeral Home from 6 until 8 pm.
Those serving as pallbearers were: Carter Babb, Clifton Babb, Bishop Babb, William Grizzard, Patrick Grizzard, Gary Thomas, Ray Carrol and Steve Burkhalter. The family requests that members of the Fellowship Sunday School class, the Sarah McCrary Circle, Dr. Raul Gonzalez and Nurse Kim Morrison serve as honorary pallbearers. In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests memorial contribution be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 606 Turner McCall Blvd., Rome, GA. 30165 or to Heyman Hospice, P.O. Box 163 Rome, GA. 30162-0163.
