
Mrs. Williams was born in Cologne, Germany, on January 20, 1925, the daughter of the late Joseph Karl and Clara Schmitt. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Eck, and a brother, Hermann Schmitt.
Mrs. Williams grew up in Cologne, Germany and lived in East Germany during the height of World War II. She met and married her husband, James, in Weisbaden, Germany and came to live in the United States in 1958. She was an avid chef, entertainer, lovely hostess, “professional” homemaker and bridge player. She loved to travel, sew, knit, croche and spend time with her family and grandchildren.
Survivors include her loving husband of 62 years, James Ruel Williams, Jr.; two daughters, Jeanne Williams Sparks (Billy), Rome, and Susan V. Williams, Roswell; sons-in-law, Kevin Eck and Ronald B. Davis; and grandchildren, Maggie Sparks and Will Sparks, both of Rome, Michelle Barrett (Kirkland), Seattle, WA, and Jennifer Williams-Davis, Atlanta.
The family will receive friends Saturday, November 22, 2014 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church. A funeral service will be held following the visitation at 11 a.m. at St. Peter’s with the Rev. John Herring and John Duncan officiating. Interment will follow at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens in the Matthew Mausoleum.
