

Joseph Fisher, born Martin Joseph Fisher, passed away after a long illness on December 9, 2025. The sixth of seven boys born to Lester and Rose Fisher, “Marty” left NYC in 1961 and joined the U.S. Army. While stationed in Germany, there he met his wife, Gisela. They married in 1962 and started their family in 1963. Joe had a long and remarkable career with the Army. He served two tours of duty in Korea, and one in Viet Nam. He was awarded the Bronze Star in 1969 for a heroic deed during the TET Offensive. He retired from the Army in 1980 with the rank of Command Sergeant Major, and a couple of years later, he and his family relocated to Rome, GA from Sun Prairie, WI. A few years after his wife’s passing in 2020, Joe became a resident of Cave Spring Manor. Living there gave him a purpose, and he was constantly surrounded by love for which his family is eternally grateful for.
Joe is survived by his three adult children, Christine Barrett, Martin Fisher and Mark Fisher; his grandchildren Megan Barrett, Lindsey Barrett, Becky Fisher and Joey Fisher; his sister-in-law Christine Scribner; his brother Terry Fisher, and many nieces and nephews.
His funeral was held on Friday, December 19th at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia. The family received friends on Thursday, December 18, 2025 from 5:00pm until 7:00pm.
