Mary Jo Gross Huffman

Mrs. Huffman was born October 7, 1927 in Toccoa, GA. She was the daughter of the late Frank Cleveland Gross and Jo Catherine Gross. She was married to Mr. William M. (Billy) Huffman November 22, 1946 who preceded her in death on December 7, 2007.

She attended Shorter College and was a member of the class of 1948. She was a member of the Colonial Dames XVII Century, Junior Service League of Rome, a charter member of the Four Seasons Garden Club. She was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Rome and was active in volunteer service in Girl Scouts, Cancer Society, and Floyd Medical Fund Raiser.

She is survived by their two children: William M. (Rocky) Huffman Jr. and his wife Martha and Teresa Paige Huffman Watters and her husband J. Tom Watters, Jr. She is also survived by her four grandchildren: Darah Joanna Huffman, Greenville, SC., J.H. (Trip) Booker III and his wife Ali, Rome; Anna Marie Huffman Park and her husband Philip, Atlanta; Paige Huffman Booker, Atlanta; three great-granddaughters: Mary Wren Booker, Rome; Josie Elizabeth Park, Atlanta; Ella Elizabeth Huffman, Greenville, S.C.; three great-grandsons: twins, James Sawyer Booker and Michael Court Booker, Rome; William Huffman Park, Atlanta; one step grandson J.T. Watters and his wife Megan; two great-grandsons, J.T. (Jay) Watters, IV, and Duke Whittier (Whit) Watters, all of Rome.

A private interment was held Sunday April 24, 2016 at 1:00 PM at Sunset Hill Cemetery with Dr. Joel Snider officiating. A memorial service was then held Sunday at 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church. The family may be reached at her residence Thursday and Friday after 2:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests that memorial contributions be made to the W.M. Huffman Scholarship Fund at Darlington School 1014 Cave Spring Rd. SW Rome, GA. 30161 or to First Baptist Church of Rome 100 E 4th Avenue Rome, GA. 30161.
