A native of Rome, GA, Mrs. Smith was born on September 25, 1918, daughter of the late P.J. Fields and Anne Fields. Mildred was homemaker in the early years of her life. As her children became older, she attended school and graduated with a nursing degree at the age of 42 and work in her career field for 20 years with the State of Georgia Hospital System in Rome. She was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church in Rome. Mrs. Smith is preceded in death by two sons, James “Dennis” Smith and “Donald” William Smith and a brother, Charlie Fields.
She is survived by a daughter, Sharon Fleet and her husband, Larry of Asheville, NC; a son, Clarence Gerald Smith of Rome; a brother, James Fields of Calhoun, GA and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A graveside and interment service was held on Friday, December 6, 2013 at 1:00 PM in the East View Cemetery with Mr. Larry Fleet officiating.
Daniel’s Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements for the service of Mrs. Mildred Beatrice Fields Smith.
