

Robert Niko deGraan of Sandy Springs, Georgia, passed away on December 13, 2025. He was born on February 21, 1945, in the Netherlands. Robert was the son of the late Greet Buys, Ferdinand Marinus deGraan, and Madge Slagle Moss deGraan.
Throughout his life, Robert was known for his private nature, steady kindness, and deep appreciation for nature and history. He held a lifelong love for plants, animals, and birds, finding comfort and meaning in caring for them and sharing that passion with others. Robert also had a remarkable ability to know and teach about all things, whether explaining the care of a plant, identifying a bird, sharing practical knowledge about mechanics, or offering thoughtful guidance. He also took great pride in his work and was deeply dedicated to his customers, many of whom became friends over the years.
He is survived by his brother, Jeff deGraan of Olympia, Washington; his children, Nicole Hawthorne and Bob deGraan of Calhoun, Georgia; and his beloved grandchildren, Megan, Abby, and Hollis, who brought him great joy. He is also survived by cousins, neighbors, and friends who will remember him fondly, as well as his cherished cat, Chat Gris, a constant and comforting companion.
Robert will be remembered for the love he had for his family, his devotion to the living things in his care, and the quiet but lasting impact he made on those around him. His memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all of the caregivers who provided compassionate and loving support during the final months of his life.
