
Mr. Holder was born in Bridgeport, AL on October 29, 1925, son of the late Clyde W. and Myrtle Davis Holder. He was preceded in death by his brother, Clyde W. Holder, Jr. He served in the US Navy aboard the USS Monssen during World War II, and then graduated from the School of Engineering at the University of Alabama in 1951. Mr. Holder was a registered Professional Engineer in the state of Georgia and worked at General Electric in Rome for more than 30 years. He retired in 1987 as a Senior Test Engineer. He served the local sports community as the statistician for the West Rome Chieftains for more than twenty years and as the Master Score Keeper for the North Georgia wrestling community for more than forty years. Mr. Holder was a charter member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church of Rome. He served his church in many ways, including many years as Clerk of the Session, and was honored with the title of Clerk of Session Emeritus in 2011.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Jo; daughters Debbie Holder Dukes (Doug), Chattanooga and Nancy Holder Payne (Ricky), Rome; granddaughter, Amy Raiford (Zack), Rome; great grandsons Cody Dobbs (Emory Herod) and Jake Dobbs (Caitlin Allen); great granddaughter, Makenna Raiford, all of Rome; sister in laws, Dean Guinn, Rome, Ann Welden, Anderson, SC; niece, Jane Fink, Anderson, SC and nephew, Randy Holder, Stevenson, AL.
Services were held Tuesday, September 8, 2015, at 1:00 at the Westminster Presbyterian Church, Rev. Greg Lund officiating. Graveside service followed at City Cemetery in Stevenson, AL, Rev. Charles Hughes officiating.
The family received friends prior to the service, Tuesday, Sept. 8, from 11:30-12:30 at Westminster Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Westminster Presbyterian Church.
