

W. Ray Horsley, 94, of Rome passed away early Thursday morning March 6, 2014 at a local health care facility. He was born September 1, 1919 in Lund, Nevada the son of the late John Peckett Horsley and Hannah Aneena Jensen Horsley. Mr. Horsley was preceded in death by ten brothers and one sister, and his wife of 70 years, Pollyanna Edwards Horsley.
Mr. Horsley served as a sergeant in the United States Army in WWII in China, Burma, and India in the 758th Railway Shop Battalion as a Technician 4th Grade.
He was the owner of the Top Hat Market in Pacific Grove, CA; General Manager of Paul Revere Life Insurance and American General Life Insurance in Fresno, CA for more than 26 years and had his own local business in Fresno. After retirement he moved with his wife to Rome, GA working in the health care business with his daughter and son-in-law.
He was Past President of C.L.U. Managers Life Underwriters Association, and the Lions Club in California. He was past Exalted Ruler of the B.P.O. Elks Lodge in Fresno and was a Master Mason of the Grand Lodge Free and Accepted Masons of California. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite and the Shrine of California.
Survivors include one daughter, Patricia McAlpin of Rome; one son, Michael Horsley and his wife, Carol of Fresno, CA. Four, grandchildren, Michael McAlpin and wife Autumn of San Clemente, CA; Matthew McAlpin and wife Melodie of San Marcos, CA; Beth Lynn Davis and husband J.C. of El Dorado Hills, CA; Raelynn Hobbs and husband Brett of Gilbert, AZ and 13 great grandchildren.
Mr. Horsley was an avid golfer and loved playing on his favorite course, Pebble Beach, in California. He especially enjoyed being with his grandchildren and traveling in his motor home all over the United States with his wife visiting family and friends.
Memorial service was held on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Daniel's Funeral Home, 901 East 2nd Avenue, Rome, GA. with the American Legion Post #5 having charge of the military Rites.
