She was very athletic and musical. She excelled in track, broad jump and gymnastics. Audrey also led the school marching band as a baton twirling majorette. She sang for weddings and funerals most of her life. At one point she sang with Lawrence Welk. She was a volunteer at the Sacramento Children’s Receiving Home, a volunteer at Mercy Hospital in Folsom, and sang with the Maidu group singers and entertained at retirement homes and nursing homes. She also worked for Coldwell Banker for 17 years as Regional Escrow Controller.
To say she was a football fan would be an understatement. She went to many games to watch her grandson’s play. She loved watching any sport her grandchildren participated in.
Her joy was in her family that she loved so dearly. She also had a great sense of humor. She cracked some great jokes until the very end. Mom was a specialist at teaching self-confidence and self-love which gives one internal self-esteem. She was at peace when she passed and will be loved and missed forever.
Preceded in death by her husband, Colonel Bill Thomas. She is survived by her daughter Misty and husband Mike Hansell as well as her sons John and Dan Steichen. She also leaves behind step daughter Linda Maples and Linda’s daughter Amanda Maples-Imm.
Audrey had six grandsons, Steve Steichen (Brandi), Sean Steichen (Danna) Jordan Steichen (Brittney) Shane Steichen (Nina) Chad Steichen (Jordan), and Braxton Steichen (Beth). She is also survived by 11 great grandchildren.
