

Earl Lansdon Black passed away at home April 3, 2012 in Roseville, Calif. Born July 1, 1937 in Redlands, Calif. He was the son of Vernon Earl Black and Edna Laurene Black and was brother to surviving John Paul Black. He is survived by his wife Patricia Pauline Black and his son James Lansdon Black and his three daughters Patricia Erin Black, Elizabeth Ann Keppler and Clarice Kathleen Yardley. He departs leaving behind seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
After being raised in Fremont, Calif., Earl "Lans" graduated from San Jose State University in 1961 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. On February 10, 1962 he married Patricia Pauline Flaherty at Irvington Baptist Church in Fremont, Calif. At his passing he was faithfully wedded for fifty years.
In 1963 Lans moved into Roseville, Calif. and began a teaching career that lasted 36 years. In 1965 he was one of the original teachers at Warren T. Eich Intermediate School. Over his tenure, he taught Art, English, and History. He also coached baseball and was involved with the Junior ROTC Program. In the 1972-1973 School year, he was awarded Teacher of the Year. In 1976 he was president of the Roseville Teacher's Association. Lans was respected by his peers and students. Many remember him for his dry wit and sharp sense of humor. He loved art and was a true history enthusiast. He loved to paint and sculpt in wood and clay. He had a keen interest in the Civil War, Egyptian history and Biblical history.
Friends and family are invited to attend services on Tuesday April 10, 2012 at Lambert Funeral Home Chapel, 400 Douglas Boulevard, Roseville, Calif.
